MESSAGE FROM THE REGIONAL CHAIRMAN

There cannot be
Finnish Community of
Day than to host the
from June 29 through

a more appropriate manner for the
Sudbury Region to commemorate Canada
annual Finnish Canadian Grand Festival
July 1, 1984.

Much of the strength of our Region has its very roots
in the Finnish people who helped make this one of the best
communities in Canada. The Finnish people of this community
have always worked hard, demanded little, contributed much,
and showed the rest of the community how to celebrate a zest
for life.
During your three-day festival, our visitors will
sample some of those very fine attributes as they participate
in a varied program of sports, arts, and musical events.
They will also, I know, be the recipients of an abundance of
that hospitality that is typical of this Region, not only
from their Finnish hosts, but from the rest of our people as
well.
Regional Municipality Sudburyn alueen ja Regional
Councilin puolesta tahdomme lausua sydamellisesti teidat
tervetulleiksi meidan keskuutemme juhlimaan, me toivomme,
etta teid!n Canada paiva juhlat ovat onnistuneet ja nauttisitte
taalla olostanne. Tervetuloa pian takaisin.

On behalf of the municipal council and the
citizens of Sudbury, I extend a sincere welcome to
Sudbury, to the participants in the Finnish Canadian
45th Annual Grand Festival.
Since Sudbury's founding some one hundred years
ago, we have been fortunate to have had the opportunity
to share in the cultural activities of the various ethnic
groups from around the world who have made their home in
Sudbury. We have enjoyed the traditions, songs, dances
and foods of many cultures and this has indeed been a
rewarding experience.
