Ninette Sanatorium
Ninette Sanatorium was founded in 1909 in Ninette, Manitoba. It is also known as Manitoba Sanatorium. Ninette Sanatorium buildings were designed by architect W. H. Shillinglaw and built by contractor William Bell.
In 1910, Ninette Sanatorium received its first patient and officially opened a month later. It began with a capacity for sixty patients. By the 1920s, Ninette Sanatorium could serve 280 patients. Ninette Sanatorium became the largest tuberculosis (TB) hospital in Manitoba.
This exhibit represents the collection at Lakehead University Archives, donated to the Thunder Bay Finnish Canadian Historical Society by John Raunio, rather than sharing all photographs. We would be happy to work with family & friends of former patients or staff interested in accessing more of the images.
